6High cold mill is very capable of rolling plain carbon steel, low alloy steel, single head rolling speed can be up to over 1000m/min, some rolling plants build tandem 6hi mill to make big scale cold rolled steel coils. But, 6hi cold mill is not suitable for wide stainless steel coil rolling, because six rollers of 6hi mill is in one vertical line, work roller needs big enough diameter to keep enough rigidity, but it is hard for big work rollers to roll stainless steel sheets like 200, 300 series. Therefore, it is available way to decrease work roller diameter to small enough to press hard metal like stainless steel sheet and meanwhile install side rollers and back support to stop work rollers from bending, 18hi mill is created and very successful in rolling stainless steel sheet especially rough rolling stage.
